A record number of journalists were imprisoned in 2020, as governments cracked down on coverage of the coronavirus pandemic or tried to suppress reporting of civil unrest, the US-based Committee to Protect Journalists said on Tuesdayvariant.

The report found that at least 274 journalists were in jail as of December 1, the most since the group began collecting data in the early 1990sB.C. unveils a quicker reopening plan than Ontario, eyes future with COVID as. It added that the main causes of arrests were protests and political tensions, and that most of them were in China, Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
